Hmm...tough call really. How do you protect against slander/libel and
still protect free speech on the internet? Should defamation of
character be protected? So everybody have the right to insult people
willy-nilly? Way too fine a line that can be crossed here. Then again,
maybe the model shouldn't be so butt-hurt about some jerk online.
Really, it just means we need to teach our children harder that
insulting someone isn't the best thing to do, and thick skin is an
absolute virtue.

I definitely agree that we've become a very soft society. You can't hurt someone's feelings.
Anthony had his first day of school yesterday and was bothered because two kids wouldn't play with him and another called him stinky. now, the one who called him stinky has been this little girl who has terrorized him since nursery school and i've told him a million times to let it go.
as for the kids not playing with him--well, that lesson of the night was about how not everyone is going to be your friend in life. And, although they're aren't your friends, you still treat them with respect and courtesy. Something in that lesson was missed with his dad...
anyway--thick skin is what i'm trying to give him, as well as teaching manners and kindness to all.
thick skin can become an opposite extreme however...you should be able to have your feelings hurt, as it is a normal emotional reaction...
but you let it go...and only let it affect you to motivate you, not bring you further down..
anyways, there is a very clear line when it comes to free speech...its either free or not free speech...
threats of violence should be investigated and thoroughly looked into, and slander and libel should have penalties once proven...however, I and anyone else should be able to call someone a stupid redneck or idiotic hillbilly (sorry, tractor pull is in town this weekend and I'm already annoyed) without fear that if I did so anonymously that my identity might be forced to be revealed...
defamation of character is a bull shit tort...slander and libel are real torts...if you say something that causes my career to be affected and said statement was false, than yes, I should have some legal course of action...however, if you do so anonymously, I would have to prove the wrong doing first, before you are revealed.
Yes, I agree.
In this case, the woman achieved more spotlight and media time from the incident, actually benefiting from the insulting blogger.
Their is no proof that calling her a skank and ho on a blog nobody reads will affect her future career.
arent all models skanks and ho's? :)
I don't think all models are skanks or ho's....except for those that really are skanks or ho's...
