Angry...commercial #1

Wow...I just saw the...ok, not going to judge. I just saw a commercial which made me whince.

"Washington, if you tax juice and soda, you're making it harder for me to feed my family."

YOU AND YOU'RE FAMILY ARE NOT DEPENDENT UPON SODA OR JUICE!

1. Soda is bad for you. If you don't want to pay the tax, don't buy it.
2. Packaged juice is bad for you. Buy fruit and make your own.

I'm sorry your fat kids and yourself need excess sugar to live. It sucks that the government is trying to snipe you.

AUGH!

dude you are missing the point. and you should really appreciate this point. the gov't is becoming more and more involved with the lives of the citizens, so muich to the point were even they are taxed on the smallest of things...

the federal govt should not be there to tell anyone how to live...funny and sadly ironic, the last administration and republicans were passing or trying to pass anti gay marriage laws, and the argument was that the govt shouldn't be that involved in personal matters...now they are taxing anything and everything we do...funny, i think that was one of many things that cause arevolution in several coountries...

Whoa...were you not in agreement with taxes on soda, junk food, etc.?

I am in favor of the "sin" taxes like on soda and tobacco, etc...but the trick is trying to devise a plan which limits the negative impact on those that do not consume those items...or decrease the over all tax rates, or flatten the tax rates...

The is no reason the richest or most wealthy should be paying a higher percentage...they should indeed pay more, but a higher percentage isn't right...maybe bring the percentage down a little...AMT and phase out of deductions limit the ability for the rich to "get away" with not paying their "fair share"...

I like some taxes, as it allows for the normal functions of government, however, adding a tax should go hand in hand with eliminating a different tax...

and, as a quick point, everyone knows I do drink soda, and I do consume candy...so I would be subject to some of these taxes...

I can argue both sides though, as I think it is important for us not to get carried away with taxing every little thing...the amount of money our government brings in per year is staggering...so why do we need to bring in more...

we dont

so, instead of raising taxes, just add the sin tax, drop some of the other taxes, and call it even...

products that are bad for consumer health create negative externalities which can be dealth with by public financial policy: "Taxes!"

The method determines the efficiency.

Nate is right about income taxes.

Fat and Soda consumption is killing people, slowly, however, therefore creating a heavy burden on society.

The social costs are reason enough for the tax, the use of such revenues is definitely open for argument!

simple, use those revenues for medicaid and medicare...

that way they can cut out the 1.5 percent tax out of my paycheck, as well the employer portion...

great, so that actually solves three issues at one time...employer burden of taxes, employee burden of taxes, and an incentive for people to either better their lives, or at least bear the cost of their own medical care thru a soda tax (sin tax)...
